Wine and Tobacco!!!

Today for fun I decided to experiment with wine and tobacco to see what fun flavors and aromas came to me. I loaded my pipe with a tobacco called Anniversary, that I purchased from my local Tinderbox. I chose a mini-bottle of Ironstone Vineyard's Cabernet Sauvignon to go with it.

The cab had a very full aroma with scents of cherry and raspberry. The 13.5% alcohol content overcame my nose a bit and reminded me of black pepper, but I couldn't be totally sure.

The taste of the wine was pleasant, although it wasn't quite what I expected from what it smelled like. It was a good flavor, but it seemed a bit dry for my usual taste. It was less fruity than I expected it to be. It had the fruity flavor, yet with a tart kick in the back of the tongue.

The first puff on a fresh pipe is always the best. The tobacco is fresh with almost no ash flavor. Anniversary is cherry flavored tobacco and in the first couple puffs of my Gandolf pipe I tasted a little creaminess in there too. It has a lighter cherry flavor than other tobaccos I have purchased, yet it was flavorful none the less. I blew the smoke out of my nose and mouth before taking another sip of wine. This changed the flavor of the wine more than I had thought it would. The creaminess came through in the wine and took the edge off the tartness it displayed the first time.

For a first attempt at an experiment like this I certainly think it was a success. Great flavors, great smells and great relaxation were abound. I would recommend that any wino out there who also enjoys the pipe give this a try.
