The wife's review: Parducci Merlot 03 (his) and Woodridge Mondavi Pinot Grigio 04 (hers)

This Merlot reminded me why I don't like red wines.
I couldn't distinguish flavors apart and it left that hot feeling in my throat. Ya know, that too much alcohol flavor. If the wine was more flavorful (I really lack at the appropriate wine descriptions, but its about what I like, right?!) the spicy taste is more tolerable and can transition to a fun after taste when all is said and done. BUT i don't like the hotness very much, and if its tooo spicy and hot like that it can actually trigger my asthma, weird right?
Although I was surprised that Noodles and company had their wine refrigerated at decent temperatures. For me there is nothing worse when a red tastes like it has been sun-bathing all day- that can really throw off the spicy flavor- which is so easy to screw up according to my taste buds. The Merlot was a little above room temperature- Score one for Noo Noo's.

--I actually didn't order the Merlot- I, of course, stuck to my white. I'm pretty familiar with Chardonnay's so today I ventured out side of my box and ordered the Woodridge Mondavi Pinot Grigio. I thought it would go nicely with my pad Thai with tofu and extra limes. Being slightly unfamiliar Pinot Grigio I initially thought that I got what I paid for-cheap wine at a noodle house. I think it was because I was disappointed at how dry the Pinot was. But as got involved with my pad thai a little more (yes, in that "don't-bother-me-I'm-eating" sort of way) I thought my choice of wine and noodles paired very well. The dryness -which I'm not always a big fan of- seemed to encourage the other flavors going on in the pad thai- peanuts, crispness of the sprouts, and my seven lime wedges I squeezed in there. I could also taste a tiny teeny hint of something fruity on the wine's end.
After I got my take home box and finished up my wine I had a pleasant after taste only to be described as the vino and pad thai shaking hands in my mouth on a job well done.

PS It is nice to be able to go to a sit down restaurant (of sorts) and drink a single glass of wine that doesn't cost about the same price as THE BOTTLE at the liquor store.

Hi Ryan!

I didn't mean to delete my last comment. Oops!

Sorry I haven't been a very good blogger lately, I just got your comment right now. Probably a little late to let you know what cheese went with my riesling but I'll tell you anyway for future reference.

I paired the Riesling with gouda and a Canadian Chevre (which I know pairs better with Gewurztraminer but it went very well with the Riesling). I also bought a smoked stilton which was incredible but didn't go very well with the riesling. It tased too much like campfire and took away from the wine.
