There is only one place to find mead in Utah and nobody knows where that is. I have had a desire to try mead for a while now, but alas, I have had no way of getting my hands on some. I have this friend whom I asked that if he were to ever come across some while he was traveling, that he buy some for me and I would pay him back. Well, I had forgotten about this and he just got back from Ireland and brought me a sample bottle.
Being as this was the first time I had ever tasted mead, I really didn't have anything to compare it to. That being said, here is what I thought of it.
On the nose it smelled exactly how I envisioned it, like honey with a kick. Sweet and intense honey. MMMMMMMM. I like honey, so I knew this was going to be good.
The taste was actually different than I had expected, but not in a bad way. I thought it would just taste like strong honey and nothing else, but along with the honey taste, it actually tasted like wine. It even gave me that little kick on the back of my tongue that white wine usually does. It was very pleasant and refreshing. Something that would go great on a picnic.
It is also one of the oldest alcoholic beverages. According to wikipedia,"The first known description of mead is in the hymns of the Rigveda,[1] one of the sacred books of the historical Vedic religion and (later) Hinduism dated around 1700–1100 BC. During the "Golden Age" of Ancient Greece, mead was said to be the preferred drink"

Mead is apparently very easy to make and I think if I get some free time over this coming winter, I might give it a try. Hell, I may even become a bee keeper if I get too bored.

The Mead was too sweet for me, I couldn't get past the scent. But-for a guy that eats honey straight, it seems right up your alley.
Don't forget those bees in the field behind us. They're free! and we could still honey like cartoon bears!
Hey dar boo boo!
