Just in time for Halloween! If you need a wine for that Halloween house party you are going to this week, then this would be a fun one to show up with. If anything Vampire Vinyards Merlot would be a fun novelty, because of the name itself.
I had the Vampire Pinot Noir at a party the weekend before, but by the time I sampled it I was no longer in a state where I could make any real opinion of it. Vee says I seemed to like it though, I will take her word for it. So, on to the Vampire Merlot.
This wine had a nice berry smell to it and I could tell there was some oak involved in the aging, whether it was a barrel or oak chips. It had that nice vanilla wood thing going on. The wine also had kind of a sweet smell.
The taste was actually pretty similar to the smell. It definitely was woody and had berry flavors, but what it wasn't as sweet as I thought it would be. It also didn't taste like blood, which was good, because I wasn't ruling anything out with a winery name like Vampire. For the cheap price of $7 that we spent on this wine I would say it would be worth it. The wine itself wasn't too bad and the name makes it almost a no brainer for what wine to bring to a Halloween party. If you were also attending the party as a vampire, you could put on a little show for the fellow party guests and pour it straight into your mouth, letting it run down your chin. Yeah, I know that was lame, but I was just trying to think of a way to make wine a part of the costume. Thats all a wino really wants, right?
